2021 Harvest Robust & Grassy Tuscan Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Tasting notes
Frescobaldi Laudemio extra virgin olive oil—a blend of three Italian olive varietals: Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino—is the epitome of a Tuscan olive oil. It's robust with bold aromas of green olives and freshly mown grass. With taste notes of artichoke and wild arugula. The oil is well-balanced with a pleasing bitterness, round fruitiness and a sparkling finish of spiciness. A robust intensity olive oil.

How to use
Rolando Beramendi—author of AUTENTICO: Cooking Italian, the Authentic Way—suggests using this extra virgin olive oil as "Tuscan ketchup" and pouring it over everything. Add a generous finishing pour to a simple bowl of cannellini beans, sautéed greens or over a hot-off-the-grill steak—the way the Tuscans do.

About the producer
One of our favorite Tuscan olive oil producers is actually a consortium of a few estates that strive to produce the finest olive oil in Florence. They are harder on themselves than any other producer, holding their product to higher standards than any others. These high standards make Frescobaldi Laudemio oil one of the more iconic Tuscan exports.

"Laudemio's delicious Frescobaldi extra virgin olive oil has been produced from early-harvested Tuscan varieties of Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino olives that have been grown and pressed on the hillside estate of the Marchesi di Frescobaldi in Chianti Ruffina. The oil offers a lovely green colour and an intense fruitiness characterized by notes of tomato and artichoke, with pleasing notes of bitter almond and black pepper."

In the Middle Ages, "Laudemio" was the name of the best part of the harvest, destined for the lord's table. Already in those ages, the Frescobaldi family produce fine wine and olive oil in their Tuscan states. Today, Laudemio Frescobaldi represents the highest expression of the extra virgin olive oil coming from Frescobaldi olive groves. In autumn, the olives are picked early and are always pressed in the proprietary mill within a few hours from the harvest.
