Gentile Papiri is a distinctive Pasta di Gragnano IGP whose sculptural form makes an intriguing alternative to familiar tubular shapes. Its name evokes papiri, or papyrus scrolls, reflecting the pasta’s curled appearance and the folds that provide plenty of space for sauce to collect. It is produced in Gragnano, Campania, by Pastificio Gentile, a historic pasta maker with roots dating to 1876. Gentile shapes its pasta using bronze dies and follows the traditional Metodo Cirillo for gentle drying, while the protected IGP designation links production directly to Gragnano and its renowned pasta culture. Papiri’s curves pair beautifully with slow-cooked tomato sauces, sausage, mushrooms, eggplant, vegetable ragù, or rich cheese preparations, allowing ingredients to settle throughout the shape. Visually striking yet highly practical, it’s an excellent pasta for entertaining or simply discovering a less familiar Italian format.
