Arrabbiata, meaning “angry” in Italian, is a spicy sauce that gets its fiery temper from hot peperonciniand garlic. Like all of Rustichella d’Abruzzo’s tomato sauces, their Arrabbiata Tomato Sauce starts out with sun-ripened Italian tomatoes, sweet sautéed onions, extra virgin olive oil and a touch of salt. The hot pepper flakes add just the right amount of heat.
This Southern Italian sauce, popular in Napoli, is typically paired with longer pasta cuts like spaghetti and bucatini. It is equally delicious used as a base for braises and stews such as Chicken Cacciatore or Cioppino. Arrabbiata Tomato Sauce also makes for a great pizza sauce – try topping it with fresh mozzarella, briny Italian anchovy fillets and an extra sprinkling of hot pepper flakes.
